LANDSCAPE PLANS for Yaupon Place

The land at Yaupon Place currently offers

  • community gathering spaces at several picnic tables and benches

  • a half-mile walking path and exercise equipment under a canopy of trees

  • a labyrinth for meditation at the center of the park

  • a little free library

  • and traditional playground

Yaupon Place would love to hear from you. What features do you hope for or imagine in this space?

The canopy of trees creates shaded gathering space at the park. A new generation of trees was planted in the late fall of 2023 to preserve this well-loved feature for future generations.

The labyrinth located at the center of Yaupon Place. An herb and sensory garden will encircle it. Progress to complete this garden was begun in 2022 with the generosity of Keep Virginia Beautiful’s Green Grant, but more funding is needed to complete the project as the soil here has been packed down and was once used as a dumping ground for hazardous debris.

Landscaping will be added to address the marshy areas and rain runoff, need for pollinators, and general increasing the park’s biodiversity.

A playground and exercise equipment was installed in late 2022/early 2023. The new exercise equipment is placed along the walking trail just as the community enjoyed in the past.
